The U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting Station gears up to support the US Marine Corps' annual Toys for Tots drive at Ares Wargames. Comic Con ladies and historical re-enactors from World War II and the U.S. Civil War added to the grand opening fun.

Store Manager Matt Springer (front, center) poses with members of the grand opening team.

With more than 4,000 square feet of space, Ares Wargames is large enough for a crowd and yet small enough to feel comfortable. Hundreds of visitors stopped by the store during grand opening weekend.

Grand Opening

Ares Wargames Grand Opening a Success!

We want to thank everyone who came to our Grand Opening yesterday, October 16th. We had several hundred people visit the store during the day! We hosted many different events ranging from the PC gaming Starcraft 2 tournament which had 16 players participate as well as Infinity and Lord of the Rings demos.

Throughout the day, we had many different personalities show up including Star Wars characters, Star Trek characters, and Comic-Con Ladies. They were all present at our ceremonial ribbon cutting event sponsored by the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce as well as the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce. The NM Department of Veterans’ Services was also present and a crew from KOB-TV 4 News produced a segment which aired on Saturday’s 10pm newscast.

This is only the beginning in our journey. Though it has been a hard road to get where we are now, perseverance and dedication allowed us to achieve this significant milestone. We will only improve our processes and continue to offer compelling and exciting events to all of our customers. Keep checking our Forum, our Facebook page, and check your email for our latest events and newest games!

From the Ares team we again want to thank everyone for the support, we will only to continue to get better from here! We welcome your continued suggestions on ways to improve the unique experience we offer at our facility.

Mechwarriors and those interested in testing their mettle as Mechwarriors, see the above training video, the old school original Virtual World Entertainment "Dooley Battletech Training Video" featuring some great washed-up 80s actors like Judge Reinhold of "Beverly Hills Cop" fame and "The Donger" from Sixteen Candles!!!!

See the rookie Mechwarrior Thrasher (with some Bear-tastic tactical skills!!!!!--inside joke, for veterans of the original Deathdealer Campaign) calling for help from the Legendary Mechwarrior "Dooley," kind of like Natashy Kerensky, the leader of the famed Black Widow Company!!!! ;) ;)

New Mexico Native Matt Springer to Head Team for Ares Wargames

Native New Mexican Matt Springer of Santa Fe takes the mantle of General Manager for Ares Wargames, Albuquerque’s newest gaming facility slated to open September 29, 2010.
Sean Scott, founder and CEO of Ares Wargames said, “Matt Springer provides proven vision, leadership and technical ability for our company. I’m most excited about his skill at team building.”

Springer served in the U.S. Army from 1998 to 2006 during the Bosnian conflict, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. After his honorable discharge he worked for Verizon Wireless as a technical coordinator. He is one semester away from a B.S. degree in political science at UNM.

“Ares Wargames is not your typical ‘gaming’ store,” Springer said. “We offer so much more than just board and miniature gaming. Our state-of-the-art, networked gaming computers are something unseen in Albuquerque.”

“The Eye-finity system takes visual gaming graphics to a new, eye-popping experience. Our store and team is committed to providing the most enjoyable, comfortable, table top and computer gaming experience in New Mexico!”

Other executive team members for the retail operation include Colin Bagdon, IT/Social Media Manager and Rod Hinton, Retail Manager. Both are lifelong gamers with extensive experience in a variety of gaming systems and genres.

According to Scott, each member of the Ares Wargames team brings a specialty gaming interest to the operation.

Ares Wargames Participates at Sci-Fi Convention Bubonicon 42

The countdown to the opening of New Mexico’s premiere game store began with sponsorship of New Mexico’s Sci-fi Convention Event of the year: Bubonicon 42, themed “Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy.”

Games from the Sci-fi genre play a big role in the Ares Wargames presentation.
Retail manager Rod Hinton was sighted running a Battletech demo at Bubonicon.

Special note: Deathdealer 6 is recruiting Mechwarriors to join the squadron for the upcoming campaign which will be held at Ares Wargames beginning September 25th. No experience required. Watch this blog or follow Ares Wargames on Facebook for more information.

The Bubonicon convention, held August 27-29th at the Albuquerque Grand Sheraton Airport Hotel featured board games and card games including Horus Heresy and others.

While the Ares photographer did not capture all of the interesting vendors, there were sightings of Darkman from Star Trek and Boba Fett from Star Wars.

NOTE: A rumor going around has the Star Wars 501st Legion supporting the grand opening of Ares Wargames!

Volunteers from the Ares team manned the registration booth, served as runners, moved supplies and helped out as needed. Hats off and thank yous to Matt Springer, Ares General Manager and Liam Rapson.

Darth Vader: “No disintegrations.”

Boba Fett: “As you wish.”
